Snapshots allows a new node to join the network by recovering application state from a backup file. Snapshot contains compressed copy of chain data directory. To keep backup files as small as plausible, snapshot server is periodically beeing state-synced.

Snapshots are taken automatically every 12 hours

Quick setup

One liner to get moving quickly

sudo systemctl stop terrad
cp $HOME/.terra/data/priv_validator_state.json $HOME/.terra/priv_validator_state.json.backup
rm -rf $HOME/.terra/data
curl -L https://snapshots.lavenderfive.com/snapshots/terra2/terra2_12306838.tar.lz4 | tar -Ilz4 -xf - -C $HOME/.terra
mv $HOME/.terra/priv_validator_state.json.backup $HOME/.terra/data/priv_validator_state.json
sudo systemctl start terrad && sudo journalctl -u terrad -f --no-hostname -o cat

Stop terrad and reset the data

sudo systemctl stop terrad
cp $HOME/.terra/data/priv_validator_state.json $HOME/.terra/priv_validator_state.json.backup
rm -rf $HOME/.terra/data

Download latest snapshot

curl -L https://snapshots.lavenderfive.com/snapshots/terra2/terra2_12306838.tar.lz4 | tar -Ilz4 -xf - -C $HOME/.terra
mv $HOME/.terra/priv_validator_state.json.backup $HOME/.terra/data/priv_validator_state.json

Restart terrad and check the log

sudo systemctl start terrad && sudo journalctl -u terrad -f --no-hostname -o cat
